Dr Urszula Markowska-Manista is a field researcher. She self-identifies as a researcher of childhoods and education in sensitive, culturally diverse environments, conducting fieldwork in a variety of contexts (the Horn of Africa, Central Africa, Central and Eastern Europe, and the South Caucasus). Her work draws on inclusive and participatory approaches in social research, decolonial methodologies, interclusion, ethical issues and genocide studies. She has been in academia for 20 years and has held positions at universities in Poland and Germany. Between 2016-2021, she served as director of the international MA Childhood Studies and Children’s Rights (MACR) programme (FU Berlin, 2016) and MACR co-director (2017-2021 FH Potsdam) and between 2017 and 2018 as head of the UNESCO Janusz Korczak Chair at the APS. Currently, she is an assistant professor and researcher at the University of Warsaw (Faculty of Education) and a guest professor at the University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt, Germany. Two decades of successful international research experience have resulted in recognised research projects, academic publications, and expert reports. Her professional career encompasses international research and intercultural teaching experiences at various HEI’s levels and educational centres. She participates as an expert, guest professor in international studies and internationally trains professionals in the field of education, diversity & inclusion and intercultural communication.
