The project „Vigilante justice in society and popular culture: a global perspective” seeks to explore how vigilante justice denied but obtained through extra-legal means comes across through the popular media. Film and TV are the principal areas of investigation. The investigators look at what has been produced in their country in the context of how the laws of that country seek to deal with those who take the law into their own hands. The contributions will use the Hollywood perspective as a marker for comparison.
Chapters from different countries will concentrate on the following issues:
- A country literature review of the topic vigilante justice
- Data and examples of vigilante justice in the country
- National Laws and jurisprudence about vigilantism, self-defence, concealed arms, etc.
- Vigilante justice (or broadly revenge) in popular culture: literature, films, television.
Project for the academic year: 2019-2020. The outcomes of the project are going to be published by Rowman & Littlefield.
